After signing star forward Paul George during the NBA offseason, the Philadelphia 76ers were thought to have thrust themselves into the title-contending conversation in the Eastern Conference.
The addition of George alongside fellow stars Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid seemed to be a step in the right direction for the 76ers and potentially precisely what the team needed to compete with the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics.
Unfortunately for Philadelphia, injuries have become a serious problem for these East heavyweights, with George, Embiid and Maxey all having dealt with an ailment during the first few weeks of the 2024-25 NBA season.
As a result of these costly injuries piling up for the 76ers, Philadelphia is currently sporting one of the worst records in the league at 2-8 after the first 10 games of the 2024-25 campaign.
The primary concern for the 76ers has been the health of their one-time NBA MVP, who former player Chandler Parsons believes the team should consider shutting down for the season via NBA Central.
“You have to start planning this season for sure without Joel Embiid,” Parsons said. “How many times more are you going to put them out there when they know how severe it is? I can’t not trust my eyes.”

This is a bit of a drastic take, considering only 10 games have been played, but there’s no doubt that Embiid hasn’t been himself when on the floor this season.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this star-studded team moving forward, whether Embiid can get healthy and back to form, or if the team needs to consider shutting him down.
