Muskingum softball sophomore Sadie Smith, senior Kalie Eshelman, senior Madelyn Thomas, and sophomore Cara Taylor were all honored for their academic excellence by being named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team.
Smith, a molecular biology major, led the Muskies with 35 RBIs and 14 doubles. She hit .284 on the season, scoring 25 runs and adding two triples and one home run.
Eshelman, a criminal justice and political science double major, was second on the team with a .331 batting average. She led the squad with four home runs and four triples, compiled 21 RBIs, and added 33 runs scored.
Thomas, an early childhood and special education double major, posted a team-best 15-6 record with a team-low 2.21 ERA. She fired 158.1 innings and notched 136 strikeouts while holding hitters to a .218 batting average. Thomas recorded 16 complete games and seven shutouts.
Taylor, a general engineering major, led the Muskies with a .390 batting average, 40 runs scored, and 28 stolen bases. She tallied 17 RBIs, 10 doubles, two triples and one home run.
To be nominated for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be a starter or significant contributor to their team, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, and reach sophomore athletic and academic standing at the school.
