The San Francisco 49ers are on the verge of falling out of contention for a playoff spot in the NFC after consecutive losses that have created an unfavorable tiebreaker situation.
The Niners now face a tall task in Week 13 having to take on a Buffalo Bills team that is on a six-game winning streak, with substantial lake effect snow expected in western New York.
San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy didn’t play in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers due to shoulder soreness, and though he has been a limited participant in practice, there is some good news regarding his status.
However, two other 49ers superstars will not be able to play.
“49ers QB Brock Purdy will be listed as questionable for Sunday vs. the Bills, but he fully participated in practice — a good sign he’ll be ready to go. DE Nick Bosa and LT Trent Williams are out,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero wrote on X.

Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan said that unless something gets worse in the next 48 hours or so, Purdy will play against the Bills on “Sunday Night Football.”
“Lots of things can happen between now and then, but right now he’s playing,” Shanahan said, via ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

Purdy’s numbers are down this season in terms of his passing accuracy and touchdown percentage, but he remains one of the more capable signal-callers in the NFL.
He will have a tough time going through his progressions without Williams, arguably the game’s best left tackle, but the QB’s ability to escape pressure and extend plays will give the Niners at least a puncher’s chance at victory.
The team has had an unbelievable and endless string of injuries to stars and key players, and thus making the playoffs could be seen as a significant accomplishment.
A few months ago, it was unthinkable to consider that merely making the playoffs would be in question for a San Francisco team that arguably has the most talented roster in football.
