The NFL is heading into the final stretch of the 2024 regular season, with teams around the league starting to show whether they’ll be in the playoffs or if they’ll begin to look toward the 2025 NFL Draft to improve their roster for the future.
This past April, draft history was made with an NFL record six quarterbacks taken in the first round, starting with the Chicago Bears selecting Caleb Williams at No. 1 overall.
The Washington Commanders followed that up by taking Jayden Daniels at No. 2, followed by the New England Patriots bringing in Drake Maye at No. 3 and Michael Penix Jr. landing with the Atlanta Falcons at No. 8, with J.J. McCarthy (Minnesota Vikings, No. 10) and Bo Nix (Denver Broncos, No. 12) following those picks.
Heading into the 2025 draft, it remains uncertain what the market will be like for quarterbacks, but Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports said he believes University of Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe will be moving up draft boards.
“The fastest rising quarterback is gonna be Jalen Milroe,” Cowherd said, via The Volume. “He can be a bit robotic. It doesn’t look pretty, but if Minnesota keeps Sam Darnold … there’s gonna be seven teams that need a quarterback. Somebody’s takin’ that guy.”

Other notable quarterbacks who could go early in the draft include Cam Ward from the University of Miami and Shedeur Sanders from the University of Colorado.
Although things tend to change frequently in terms of which players will be targeted in the first round of any NFL Draft, it’s safe to say Ward and Sanders will be in the top tier, while it remains to be seen where Milroe will land.
