One of the feel-good stories in the NFL over the last couple of years has been the growth of quarterback Baker Mayfield, who seemed to be down and out following the 2022 season.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took a chance on him two offseasons ago, and it has paid off, as he responded with a Pro Bowl season in 2023, and they have now won four games in a row and sit in first place in the NFC South with an 8-6 record.
Commentator Colin Cowherd revealed on “The Herd w/ Colin Cowherd” that he offered Mayfield a job on his podcast just a year ago.

Mayfield was the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns, and at the time, it was thought he would be the franchise savior the Browns had long hoped for.
But after four star-crossed seasons in Cleveland, the team traded him to the Carolina Panthers, where he spent the first half of the 2022 campaign before finishing out the year with the Los Angeles Rams.
At the time, he had a reputation as a naturally gifted but mercurial signal-caller who was mistake-prone and not easy to get along with.
But since going to Tampa Bay, he has seemingly become his best self.
He led the team to a division title and a wild-card playoff round upset of the Philadelphia Eagles last season.
So far this year, Mayfield has thrown for 3,617 yards and 32 touchdowns while completing 70.8 percent of his pass attempts, and he has made Tampa Bay into one of the NFL’s most potent offensive teams.
