The Atlanta Falcons have gone from a team that seemed to figure things out early in the 2024 NFL season to a new-look squad that is seemingly starting to spiral out of control.
The addition of veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins appeared to be a step in the right direction for the Falcons, as he was able to turn things around for the offense and put together a string of wins, which has Atlanta sitting atop the NFC South division standings with a record of 6-6.
However, the Falcons have hit a rough patch at the wrong time, as they have lost three straight games coming into Week 14’s matchup on the road against the Minnesota Vikings.
It’s ironic timing for Cousins, as he will play his old team for the first time in Minnesota, meaning this game is a bit more critical than others, especially with the division title still being up for grabs.
Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky thinks he knows what is wrong with Cousins right now, as he is not being played to his strengths via NFL on ESPN.
“He has zero touchdown passes this year in play-action,” Orlovsky said. “Kirk Cousins was one of the best, if not the best, play-action quarterbacks in football over the last four years. … I’m not sitting there saying that’s the cure-all. But my goodness, Atlanta, what are we doing? Let’s let him play to his strengths.”

Orlovsky does have a point, and it is interesting that the Falcons’ coaching staff hasn’t seen what could be a very fixable situation in Atlanta.
It’ll be interesting to see if things change for the Falcons in Week 14 or if it will be more of the same when they take on the Vikings in Minnesota this weekend.
