IPL Match No 66: LSG vs KKR
Lucknow had their best opening stand of the season with an unbeaten partnership between Quinton De Kock (140* off 70 balls) and KL Rahul (68* off 51 balls) with both remaining unbeaten till the end posting 210/0 at the end of 20 overs. KKR were backed against the wall as they needed a win to stay as a contender for playoffs.
KKR Chase
In response KKR were right in trouble at the top with some accurate bowling by Mohsin Khan who ended with figures for 3/20 and was the pick of the bowler. After the fall of two quick wickets, Nitish Rana (42 off 22) and Shreyas Iyer (50 off 29) punched their way ahead and at some point they were going at the asking and the match seemed to be within their grasp.
Two quick wickets of Sam Billings and Andre Russel backed by some superb bowling by Mohsin Khan, Marcus Stoinis and Avesh Khan pulled the game back in Lucknow’s favour. With 80 odd runs required from around 40 odd balls, it seemed over for KKR. But a superlative effort by Rinku Singh (40 off 15) and Sunil Narine (21* off 7) got the match to the very last ball.
With 17 runs needed in the last over, it was all but gone for KKR. Rinku had other ideas though and with some lusty hitting off the bowling of Stoinis (6,4,4 off 3 balls) brought the equation down to 3 runs off 2 ball for a victory for KKR. Rinku’s ended with a superlative diving catch by Evil Lewis in the extra cover boundary and it came down to needing 3 runs off the last delivery for KKR. The last ball saw a stunning yorker break the stumps of Umesh Yadav and it was all over for Kolakata while it was jubilation for Lucknow Super Giants.
